The Basketball Referee works under the general direction and supervision of the Community Center/Recreation Manager and is responsible for officiating scheduled basketball games coordinated by the Recreation & Community Services Department. This is a seasonal position working on Saturdays in the months of December-February.

This position will remain open until filled.

The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.

• Observes players and regulates the game.
• Interprets game rules.
• Communicates with players, coaches, parents, and other referees.
• Makes decisions and resolves disputes between teams.
• Records game score and manages game time.
• Promotes good sportsmanship through respectful behavior to both coaches and teams.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, and the general public.

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Knowledge of the game of basketball or the desire to learn the sport .
• Experience working with children preferable.

• Basic knowledge of basketball.
• Knowledge of supervising children in an educational or recreational setting.
• Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
