Assistant Professor - Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Hunter Colleges Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology has a 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position available for Spring, 2027. The successful candidate will have responsibilities including teaching, research and guidance duties and share responsibility for committee and department administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry an independent line of research aligned with her/his area of interest. She/he will be expected to establish and mentor students in research labs as well as provide input and support for existing research programs and projects.

The department has 7 full-time academic and clinical faculty along with adjunct faculty who support academic and clinical education. The department admits approximately 25, full-time graduate students annually. The department is housed in the School of the Health Professions; it offers a warm collegial environment and provides extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in the two schools as the School of Education and the School of Arts and Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants will have a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related fields. A strong candidate who is at the final stage of doctoral degree completion (All-But-Dissertation/ABD) may be considered.

Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in the practice area of Speech-Language Pathology will be required; foreign equivalent documentation to this certification may be considered by the search committee. Also required is the ability to teach successfully; demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution and department. The successful applicant will have a background in speech/language and hearing sciences with specific interests in speech science, specifically in the areas of motor speech control, motor speech impairments, and swallowing disorders. Early career investigators with grant-writing experience as well as mid- and senior researchers are encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION

Compensation: Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.

Salary Range: $82,663$98,995. Expected salary range effective September 1, 2026 (pending implementation of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement): $85,556$102,460.
