Salary: $120,000 - 140,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, or another related technical field.
• We require at least 5 years of experience delivering production software.
• We look for a proven ability to design systems that other engineers build upon, including networked systems spanning ground and vehicle environments, along with experience elevating quality through design review, code review, and mentorship.
• We need strong command of data structures, algorithms, and maintainable system design, with depth in one or more of Python, C, C++, Rust, Go, or MATLAB/Simulink, or the ability to ramp quickly in a new systems language.
• We expect disciplined testing practices, including unit and integration coverage before production, plus working knowledge of Git, the Linux command line, and AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment about when they add value.
• We look for willingness to grow into technical areas outside your primary expertise, openness to innovative approaches, and comfort contributing as an individual contributor in a collaborative team setting.
• We require fluency in written and spoken English.
• We require U.S. Person status, as visa sponsorship is not provided.
• Preferred knowledge includes real-time, embedded, or onboard software and the constraints of vehicle-based systems.
• Preferred knowledge includes message-driven or distributed systems, including delivery guarantees, pub/sub, queues, streams, and tools such as Redis or ZeroMQ.
• Preferred knowledge includes using a database as a source of truth and preserving data integrity through versioning, checksums, or content hashing in distributed systems.
• Preferred knowledge includes robotics, controls, autonomy, or other real-time systems.
• Preferred knowledge includes perception, sensor fusion, localization, or GNSS/INS data.
• Preferred knowledge includes Docker, containerized development, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Preferred knowledge includes extending existing codebases rather than starting from scratch.
• Preferred industry experience includes Rail, Electric Vehicles, or Unmanned Systems, especially working across hardware, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
• Education and experience are typically gained through advanced technical study and at least 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination such as a masters degree plus 3 years of related experience.

• We own the architecture of the vehicle-control system across ground and vehicle, including service boundaries, interface definitions, and delivery-guarantee strategy.
• We build and maintain the server-side modules that request, route, dispatch, track, and report trips, as well as the onboard modules that execute those trips safely on the vehicle.
• We design and implement real-time messaging between ground and vehicle with message-specific delivery guarantees.
• We own the data model for track and vehicles, along with the interfaces, version checks, and integrity checks that keep ground and vehicle deployments aligned.
• We establish the testing standard for the stack, including unit tests, integration tests, field testing on physical rail vehicles, and regression coverage for production fixes.
• We investigate and resolve production issues on fielded vehicles, then feed those lessons back into architecture, testing, and team standards.
• We strengthen quality through design review, code review, and mentorship, while breaking down ambiguous requirements into executable work.
• We collaborate with Perception on autonomous capabilities, coordinate interfaces with the Embedded and Applications teams, and maintain documentation and internal knowledge bases.
