Job Description
About ShowerBox
ShowerBox is a registered charity, providing free, welcoming shower services for people
experiencing homelessness and hygiene poverty - offering dignity, care, and a safe space for
anyone who needs us. We operate in Central London, Birmingham and Barking. Our Central
London project is our busiest with around 60-70 guests having a shower with us. We are now launching our new London Community Partnership service, which heralds a new
chapter for our charity as we seek to support more people facing homelessness across the
capital. By creating strong partnerships with homelessness organisations already embedded
and doing brilliant work in their local areas, we will be able to bring showers, increased
wellbeing, deeper community cohesion and more dignity to their guests. Role Summary
We're looking for a friendly, reliable, experienced, confident and hands-on Community
Facilities Leader to drive and take the lead on the set up, operation and pack down of our
mobile shower unit at our Central London project and at our new Community Partnership
services. Note that we are growing this role alongside the launch of our new London shower route.
While our current requirement is for Mondays and Saturdays, we are actively
working to develop further London services throughout the week. Our ambition is to build a network of community partnerships that enables us to operate a service across the
main London boroughs five days of the week. As this develops, there is potential
for the role to grow into a full-time position. This may suit someone looking for more regular hours, while others may prefer to keep to two
or three shifts per week. Either way, we'd love you to apply, and we can share more about how
the role may develop as our London services grow. In support of our Central London Shift Leads and working alongside partner homelessness
services, the role will require: - hitching and driving our mobile shower trailer across London on Monday and Saturday to begin with
- setting up the trailer - levelling it, attaching the standpipe, hooking up the gas
bottles, electricity cable and waste pipe
- troubleshooting any issues which may arise with the showers on site, such as low
water pressure or the water pump not working properly
- Welcoming shower guests with warmth and respect
- monitoring and addressing maintenance needs of the van and trailer eg flat tyres, low
petrol, low gas bottles etc
- Ensuring health and safety standards are upheld and safeguarding procedures are
followed
- leading a small team of volunteers who will clean and monitor the showers Requirements:
Full UK driving license and competent, confident driver for navigating London's busy
roads
Organised and dependable, with excellent communication skills
Strong experience with mechanics/good understanding of plumbing
Physically able to setup (lifting, connecting gas/water/power - training provided)
Ability to problem solve
Alignment with ShowerBox's values of dignity, respect, and inclusivity Preferable experience:
Experience towing a trailer
Certified First Aider Experience supporting vulnerable adults e.g due to mental health, substance use,
homelessness etc
Experience of safeguarding processes and conflict management
