Job Title: Visiting Faculty – Behavioural Economics and Decision Making Location: Pune (On-campus – Abasaheb Garware College) Job Type: Visiting / Part-Time Program: B.Sc. Data Science (Second Year – Undergraduate Students) Course Duration: 30 Hours Note - It is not an online teaching responsibility. Faculty is required to conduct lectures on campus. About the Role The School of Data Science & Business Intelligence (SDBI) is seeking a Visiting Faculty member to teach Behavioural Economics and Decision Making to second-year undergraduate students in the B.Sc. Data Science program. This interdisciplinary course introduces students to how people make decisions in real-world situations by combining concepts from economics, psychology, and behavioral science. Students will explore why individuals often deviate from rational decision-making, how cognitive biases influence judgments, and how behavioural insights are applied in business, public policy, finance, marketing, and technology. Key Responsibilities Deliver 30 hours of engaging classroom instruction during the semester. Explain fundamental concepts of behavioural economics and decision science using practical examples. Conduct classroom activities, behavioural experiments, simulations, and case-based discussions. Connect behavioural theories with real-world business, consumer, financial, and policy decisions. Design assignments, quizzes, and group activities that promote analytical and critical thinking. Encourage students to evaluate decision-making using evidence rather than intuition alone. Support internal assessments and provide constructive academic feedback. Coordinate with the academic team to ensure timely completion of the syllabus. Topics to Be Covered Foundations of Behavioural Economics Introduction to behavioural economics Rational choice versus bounded rationality Decision-making under uncertainty Heuristics and intuition Cognitive Biases and Human Behaviour Anchoring and framing effects Loss aversion and prospect theory Confirmation bias Availability and representativeness heuristics Overconfidence and optimism bias Behavioural Decision Making Risk perception and decision-making Time preferences and present bias Habit formation and self-control Choice architecture and nudging Applications of Behavioural Economics Consumer behaviour and marketing decisions Behavioural finance and investment decisions Public policy and behavioural interventions Organizational decision-making Digital platforms and behavioural design Contemporary case studies from business and government Candidate Profile Master's degree in Economics, Behavioural Economics, Psychology, Management, Public Policy, Business Analytics, or a related discipline. Industry, consulting, research, or policy experience in behavioural science, consumer research, business strategy, marketing, finance, or related domains. Strong understanding of behavioural economics principles and their practical applications. Prior teaching, corporate training, mentoring, or workshop facilitation experience is preferred. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to simplify interdisciplinary concepts for undergraduate students.
