The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $80,217 - $100,000/annually, based on experience and education.

This position requires working on-site five days per week at the Roslyn Campus, located at 5440 Roslyn St., Denver, CO 80216 (location could change in the future). The schedule will be Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM.

Fleet Management maintains more than 2,500 vehicles and pieces of equipment that support essential City and County of Denver operations. The teams goal is to sustain vehicle availability at 95% or higher while tracking vehicle usage and maintenance costs, prioritizing vehicle replacements, procuring new vehicles and heavy equipment, and managing fuel contracts for City vehicles.

The Fleet Management team is seeking an experienced and motivated Fleet Technician Supervisor to help lead and support the maintenance and repair of the Citys diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise fleet technicians involved in the inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety equipment

• Prepare and maintain records and reports of labor, parts, materials, and maintenance costs

• Establish and maintain active and reserve fleet databases

• Monitor a preventative maintenance program

• Ensure parts, equipment and materials are available for automotive, heavy duty and specialized equipment repair

• Prepare work orders, records and reports; may approve purchase requests

• Make use of appropriate cost control measures in the repair, maintenance, and fabrication of vehicles and equipment

• Identify equipment needed for purchase in the annual budget process for the annual vehicle and equipment request process

• Draft specifications for new equipment to be purchased and process new vehicles upon delivery

• Coordinate the equipment trade-in program and identify equipment to be made available for surplus

• Review accident inspection reports and provide expert testimony during investigations

• Coordinate environmental and sustainability initiatives for fleet division, including underground storage tank (UST) and waste stream data

• Establish and maintain programs such as: state gasoline emissions program and factory warranty program for vehicles and equipment under warranty, including recalls

• Develop goals, document performance, provide performance feedback and formally evaluate the work of employees; provide reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance

• Assist staff to achieve performance standards and identify opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards

• Assist in the development of departmental budgets

• Initiate and recommend disciplinary action for employees as necessary

• Implement and interpret policies and procedures developed by higher level managers

• Develop, recommend, and coordinate the implementation of new procedures for the assigned function

• Monitor contracts to ensure compliance with contract requirements, verify that contractors have met contract goals and provided required reports and documentation; review and resolve differences in areas of non-compliance, and address other concerns as necessary

• Observe all common shop safety standards

• Participate in snow removal duties

We are looking for a strong, engaged leader who can operate through discipline, establish clear expectations, and hold the team accountable to goals and standards. Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

• Experience operating heavy construction equipment

• Possession of a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

• Flexibility to work varying hours and locations, including overtime and weekends, as needed

• Strong communication, time management, and follow-through skills

• Experience using data to identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

• Experience Requirement: Six (6) years of journey level experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of gasoline, diesel, or alternate fuel powered equipment, including electronic systems, hydraulic systems, transmission and combustion engine overhaul.

• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

• License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "A") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.

  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
