Position Details Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:
The College of Health Sciences at Sam Houston State University ( SHSU ) is pleased to invite qualified applications for a Principal Faculty position at the Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank (12-month appointment) in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies ( MPAS ) Program. The Principal Faculty will report to the Program Director and work closely with other MPAS faculty, and staff to support the programs mission and maintain compliance with ARC -PA accreditation standards.

Primary responsibilities include providing student instruction and teaching courses (didactic and/or clinical as assigned by the Program Director). The selected candidate will be responsible for administrative duties, including participating in the admission process, scheduling clinical rotations, and assisting the clinical team with program evaluation during the clinical phase. Duties will also include maintaining data and assessments to prepare reports for accreditation purposes. The faculty will be responsible for academic mentoring and advising of learners. The selected candidate will assist the Clinical Coordinator in delivering classroom learning experiences and clinical skills instruction on essential medical and clinical science topics, tailored to the individuals qualifications. Collaboration with the Department Chair, Director of the MPAS Program, Medical Director, and other principal faculty members will be necessary to manage the curriculum effectively and ensure high-quality instruction.

Supervise students in didactic and/or clinical courses and activities. Assist with admissions (e.g. application review, selection, and interviews). Assist in developing and coordinating course design and implementation within the didactic and/or clinical curriculum. Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of student performance. Provide academic counseling and advising of students. Participate in service to the department, college, University, and community. Perform other program and department level duties, as assigned. Assist in the evaluation process of the curriculum and the program. Assist in the development, review, and revisions (as necessary) the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program. Assuring the availability of remedial instruction for students.

Educational Requirements for the Position:
Physician Assistant - Masters degree from an ARC -PA accredited program.

OR

Physician A Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathy

Experience Required for the Position:
Physician Assistant:

1. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.

2. Candidates must be NCCPA -certified and have current Texas PA licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of Texas.

Physician:

1. Full unrestricted MD license or eligibility to obtain such licensure in the State of Texas.

All candidates should possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as a team member.

We prefer a candidate to have knowledge and the ability to comply with accreditation standards related to evaluation and assessment.

Other Requirements for the Position:
The selected candidate will maintain awareness of the PA profession and participate in service to the program, university, and the healthcare profession. The proposed MPAS Program at SHSU seeks to recruit and retain a faculty with various skills, expertise, knowledge, and backgrounds.

LOCATION
This position is based out of the Health Professions Building in Conroe. Travel to the main campus in Huntsville may occasionally be required.

The ARC -PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the Sam Houston State University, Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program sponsored by Sam Houston State University. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the programs ability to meet the ARC -PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of Students. Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.
