Job Description

About the Role: The Head of Outpatient Pharmacy will have end-to-end accountability for the Group's OP Pharmacy business across India, with responsibility for driving revenue and profitability, improving prescription conversion and customer experience, strengthening operational and inventory efficiencies, and establishing consistent pharmacy standards across locations. The role will work closely with hospital leadership, clinicians and corporate functions to identify performance gaps, drive corrective actions and scale best practices across the network, with significant travel to Group facilities. Location: Narayana Health Corporate Office, Electronic City, Bengaluru Education: B.Pharm / M.Pharm/ MBA in Healthcare Management from a recognised institution. Valid registration with the relevant State Pharmacy Council / Pharmacy Council of India, as applicable to the role. Experience: 15 – 18 years of overall experience in managing P&L of hospital pharmacy, OP pharmacy or healthcare retail. Strong and demonstrable experience in OP Pharmacy sales/business management is essential. Key Deliverables: 1. Business & P&L Ownership Own the Group-wide P&L and overall business performance of OP Pharmacies across Narayana Health hospitals. Drive revenue, gross margin, profitability and sales productivity across locations. Set business targets, budgets and KPIs; ensure consistent delivery across hospitals. Review performance, identify gaps and lead corrective actions to improve revenue and profitability. Drive prescription conversion, pharmacy utilisation, customer retention and overall sales performance. 2. Operational Excellence & Inventory Management Drive operational excellence and standardization across hospital OP Pharmacies, with focus on productivity, service levels and patient experience. Optimize inventory, stock availability, inventory turns, expiry losses and working capital. Strengthen demand planning, replenishment and inventory controls to minimize stock-outs and excess inventory. Identify operational inefficiencies, revenue leakages and avoidable costs; drive corrective actions. Establish performance benchmarks and use analytics to drive continuous improvement across locations. 3. Procurement, Vendors & Cost Efficiency Partner with Procurement and Supply Chain to optimize purchase costs, supplier terms, product availability and working capital. Manage key pharmaceutical suppliers and external vendors, ensuring competitive pricing, service levels and supply continuity. Drive Group-level procurement efficiencies through commercial optimization, standardisation and scale. Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to agreed commercial and service commitments. Identify cost optimization opportunities while maintaining product availability and patient service. 4. Team & Stakeholder Management Lead and develop OP Pharmacy leadership and operating teams across hospitals, fostering commercial accountability and performance ownership. Set clear performance expectations and build capability across pharmacy teams. Partner with Hospital CEOs/COOs, Medical Leadership, Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality and other corporate functions. Align pharmacy and hospital teams to improve utilization, patient experience and business outcomes. Provide regular performance reviews and strategic recommendations to Group leadership.
