About the Position

In this role, you will...

  • Review Right-of-Way (ROW) Use permit applications to ensure compliance with the Unified Development Code and applicable regulations.

  • Conduct field inspections on private, public, and County-owned properties to verify compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Assist with the review of subdivision, site, and development plans as part of the permitting process.

  • Help support safe, efficient, and compliant land development projects throughout the community.

  • Collaborate with planners, inspectors, engineers, and other County staff to move projects forward.

  • Provide backup support for Land Development Inspectors by assisting with field inspections and related activities.

  • Contribute to maintaining high standards for development while helping protect the County's infrastructure and public spaces.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.

  • Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ( no weekends! )

As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent and 4+ years of total experience in inspecting.

  • OR: College or university-level training in an appropriate field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

  • Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.

The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university preferred.

  • Passed the Florida Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or able to obtain it within six months of hire.

  • Knowledge of drainage structure construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret subdivision, drainage, and construction plans with accuracy.

  • Experience conducting field inspections and evaluating construction projects for compliance.

  • Familiarity with stormwater hydrology, hydraulics, surveying, construction practices, scheduling, and pavement design.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, Microsoft Office, and computer skills, with the ability to quickly learn County software and systems.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of 5 years.

Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $24.74/hr (minimum) up to $31.54 (midpoint), based on experience.
