<p> In this position you will be providing a valued service, by assuring public health and safety. For more information regarding this program, please visit style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0"&gt; </p><p> Examine and evaluate overall health of all animals in the shelter. </p><p> Attend daily population rounds <br /> <br /> <br /> Assist with euthanasia procedures as directed by veterinarian. <br /> <br /> <br /> Administer medication, assist veterinarian and registered Vet Techs during surgery and monitor animals during recovery period. </p><p> Work in partnership with other medical staff such as Registered Veterinary Technicians and Operations team members <br /> <br /> <br /> Conduct pre-adoption health examinations and prepares animals for adoption. <br /> <br /> <br /> Monitor medical supplies and record use of controlled substances to ensure Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements are met if certified to do so <br /> <br /> <br /> Adapt practices to ensure the most current approaches to animal health and welfare are implemented. </p><p> Marginal Function Examples </p><p> Provide training to shelter staff and co-workers on the proper feeding and care of animals in the shelter. </p> Perform other duties as required or assigned. <p> Equivalent to education in veterinary science and one year of experience working with animals. </p> Certification as a Veterinary Technician by the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board within six months of employment. SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT : A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. Additionally, new employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St. Louis County geographically reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
