Job Description: English Teacher – IB Continuum (MYP & DP)

Location: Ooty, Tamil Nadu
Salary: 10-14 Lacs per year
Grades: IX–XII
Curricula: IB MYP, IB Diploma Programme, IGCSE and ISC
Reporting to: Head of Department – English
The English Teacher will work closely with the Head of Department, IB Coordinator and Section Coordinators to deliver high-quality English Language and Literature instruction across senior school programmes.
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and student-focused English Teacher with strong expertise in the IB curriculum. The selected candidate will teach English Language and Literature across the MYP and Diploma Programme, while also supporting IGCSE and ISC learners.
The role requires strong curriculum knowledge, inquiry-based teaching skills, effective student assessment and the ability to contribute actively to the academic and residential-school environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Planning and Teaching
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the IB philosophy and GSIS academic framework.
- Teach English Language and Literature across IB MYP, IB DP, IGCSE and ISC curricula.
- Develop detailed lesson plans covering learning objectives, teaching methods, resources, assessments and inquiry outcomes.
- Design learner-centred and inquiry-driven classroom experiences.
- Integrate Approaches to Learning skills into classroom instruction.
- Differentiate teaching based on students’ learning levels, abilities and academic needs.
- Select, create and review appropriate teaching resources and learning materials.
- Review curriculum plans regularly to ensure relevance, inclusion and academic rigour.
- Analyse student performance and modify teaching strategies to improve learning outcomes.
Student Learning and Development
- Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening and analytical skills.
- Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and conceptual understanding.
- Create an inclusive, stimulating and respectful classroom environment.
- Use technology and innovative teaching methods to improve student engagement.
- Provide remedial support to struggling learners and enrichment opportunities to advanced students.
- Prepare students for examinations, mock assessments, projects and academic competitions.
- Mentor students in their academic, personal and social development.
- Maintain effective classroom management based on mutual respect, consistency and discipline.
Assessment and Feedback
- Design and conduct formative and summative assessments aligned with IB requirements.
- Prepare students for IB English Paper 1, Paper 2 and other internal or external assessments.
- Monitor student progress through ManageBac and other academic platforms.
- Provide timely, constructive and actionable oral and written feedback.
- Guide students through coursework, projects, written assignments and assessments.
- Track unit progress and communicate academic updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Reflect on assessment outcomes and improve teaching practices accordingly.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments and student performance.
- Document evidence of student learning in line with school and IB requirements.
- Prepare report cards, progress reports and other academic documentation.
- Maintain updated unit plans, lesson records and assessment data.
Safeguarding and Behaviour Management
- Maintain a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment.
- Apply behaviour-management policies fairly and consistently.
- Promote student well-being, independence, responsibility and self-discipline.
- Act as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism and integrity.
- Follow all child-protection and safeguarding policies without exception.
- Report any safeguarding concerns through the appropriate school channels.
Collaboration and School Engagement
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, academic reviews and school initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary and technology-integrated learning.
- Work closely with the IB Coordinator, Section Coordinators and student-support teams.
- Contribute to curriculum development and professional-learning programmes.
- Support and mentor new faculty members where required.
- Participate in pastoral care, school events, clubs and extracurricular activities.
- Provide classroom cover and additional academic support when required.
- Contribute positively to the wider residential-school community.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate degree in English.
- B.Ed. with English as a teaching subject.
- Relevant IB certification.
- Minimum five years of teaching experience in the IB curriculum.
- Experience preparing students for IB English Paper 1 and/or Paper 2.
- Strong understanding of IB MYP and Diploma Programme assessment practices.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working as an IB Examiner.
- Previous experience in an international or residential school.
- Experience teaching IGCSE and ISC curricula.
- Familiarity with ManageBac and other digital learning platforms.
